The College & University Athletic Training Committee
The Mission of this committee is to identify and address any and all issues and concerns pertinent to athletic trainers in the collegiate and university setting. These areas include but are not limited to the following:
- Health related issues of the student athlete
- Employment issues related to the certified athletic trainer
- Forming position and/or support statements
- Forming liaisons with agencies governing college athletics
- Working with the NATA on issues related to the college/university athletic trainer
- Forming liaisons with other health care governing bodies
The Duties include but are not limited to:
- Study and discuss the unique concerns associated with the college/university practice settings
- Develop programs and activities that address concerns and enhance the effectiveness of college and university athletic trainers
Since the CUATA inception and NATA recognition the following tasks have been accomplished by the CUATA:
- In 1993 the CUATA was recognized by the NATA
- 1994 created a liaison with the NCAA Safeguards Committee
- Created a task force to study the athletic trainer to student athlete ratio
- Sponsors and presents educational topics during the Educational Program at the Annual National NATA symposium
- Continues to have input into the development and revisions of the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook
- Has continued representation on the NCAA Rules Committee
- Conducted a Pre-participation Evaluation Survey which led to the Pre-participation Evaluation Guidelines
- Has brought to the forefront and has had input into the spring football and the non-traditional practices
- Has created the helmet and shoulder pads removal guidelines
- June 1996, improved the ATC staffing at NCAA Championships as well as the reimbursement of the ATC for championships
- Participate in a national ACL survey
- Investigated the possibility of creating concussion procedures
- April 1997, created a liaison position for health and safety issues on the NCAA Safeguards Committee
- Participated in the Overuse Injury Survey
- Created the Adequate Medical Coverage Task Force
- Spearheaded wrestling rule changes
- Has active input in the NATA Education Council
- Created a liaison position to the NCAA Baseball Association
- Created a liaison position to the American Football Association
